Who creates these Gargoyles?
Steve Caspary
Steve Caspary, Freelance Artist, designed and produces two of the
fantasy pieces on this site, the Winged Dragon Fossil and the Well-Fed
Baby Dragon. Both are hand-painted hydrostone castings created with
great care and craftsmanship. All his pieces are copyrighted under
his name, Steve Caspary.
Hundreds of years ago most of the original gargoyles and grotesques
were carved out of stone. Steve tries to replicate that look and
feel as closely as possible. His originals are sculpted from oil-based
clay. Once the sculpture is complete, he builds a mold from a very
high quality latex molding material. Latex gives exceptional reproduction
of detail and its elasticity allows each piece to be cast without
parting lines. Each gargoyle is then cast in hydrostone, a very hard
plaster, almost stone-like. After each piece is cast and removed
from its mold it goes through a hand finishing process. This produces
pieces similar in structure, but each with its own distinct character
and look. No two pieces come out exactly alike.
Steve Caspary also paints custom murals and does faux finishes in
the South Eastern Massachusetts area including Cape Cod. Just give
him a basic idea and he will design the perfect mural for your home.

Chris Pelletier
Chris Pelletier, Freelance Sculptor and Artist, created, designed
and produces many of the chimerical pieces on this site. Including
the Two-Headed Dragon Crest, the Devil with Angel Wings wall plaque,
Ram's Head Gargoyle Wall Shelf, Sometimes the Dragon Wins Beast,
Kalyn the Catgoyle, and many more. These gargoyles are creative interpretations
of carvings that can still be found high up on ceilings and naves,
hidden in dark crypts and chapels, or adorning the outside of the
cathedrals some so worn from the elements that they are barely recognizable.
All are hand-painted hydrostone castings created with great care
and craftsmanship. All his pieces are copyrighted under his name,
Chris Pelletier.
Folkloric tradition relates that gargoyles are unsightly so they
would be able to scare away even the most hateful evil spirits. The
gargoyle's primary function is to scare away evil spirits and to
protect the people and valuables it watches over. Chris tries to
depict that look and feel as closely as possible. His originals are
sculpted from oil-based clay. Once the sculpture is complete, he
builds a mold from a very high quality polyurethane molding material.
Polyurethane gives exceptional reproduction of detail. Each gargoyle
is then cast in hydrostone, a very hard plaster, almost rock-like.
After each piece is cast and removed from its mold it goes through
a hand finishing process. This produces pieces similar in structure,
but each with its own distinct character and look. No two pieces
ever look exactly alike. Each one has a character all it's own.
Chris also offers the following available services Armature Building,
Clay Modeling, Moldmaking in both polyurethane & silicone, Casting
non-metal, Chasing, and Installation. All services can be done as
either a personal commission or on an assistant basis.
Occasionally Chris teaches workshops on Rubber Moldmaking, Sculpting,
and related subjects. Chris is currently a faculty member of the
Round Top Center for the Arts in Damariscotta, Maine and highly recommends
